Young people, college students, folks looking for employment… This post is for you. All the time we hear about how employers are looking into people’s Facebook profiles to see if the applicants show discretion and maturity in how they represent themselves online. Here are some tips that will help you clean up that Facebook profile so you don’t miss out on an interview, or worse, the job itself.
The most important things to do to clean up your Facebook.
1. The privacy settings on Facebook are ever-changing. Make sure your settings are to your liking. We suggest not letting too much information out, and more importantly, not letting information out that would turn off employers.
2. Un-tag yourself from pictures you wouldn’t want employers to see. These may include drunk photos or party photos. Also, delete wall posts from friends that may be deemed inappropriate, as the employer is looking for what kind of company you keep.
3. Use a profile picture that suggests professionalism and maturity.
4. Make posts visible (or not private) that will suggest an interest in the field you want to go into, or industry of the hopeful employer.
